What custom cabinets cost in the Fremont area

Cabinet pricing shouldn't require a showroom visit to learn. Here are the honest ranges we work in - per linear foot and per project - and what moves a job up or down inside them. Your exact number always comes in writing after a measure.

Per linear foot, installed

The three tiers, priced straight

TierPer linear footWhat the number buys
Stock (big-box)$60 - $200Fixed sizes, particleboard boxes, filler strips hide the gaps
Semi-custom$150 - $650Catalog lines with size and finish options; upgrade fees stack fast
Custom (built to order)$500 - $1,200Built to your walls; wood, style, and interiors are open choices

"Linear foot" measures along the wall, uppers and lowers together. A U-shaped kitchen with 8-foot walls is roughly 20-24 linear feet.

By project

Typical project ranges

ProjectTypical rangeWhat moves it
Full kitchen, 15-25 linear ft$10,000 - $28,000Wood, door style, and interior fittings set the range
Kitchen island only$2,500 - $8,000Size, drawer count, and counter overhang support
Bathroom vanity$1,800 - $6,000Single vs double, floating vs furniture-style
Cabinet refacing (whole kitchen)$4,500 - $12,000Door count and veneer vs paint on the frames
Built-in wall (media, office)$6,000 - $18,000Width, height, doors vs open shelving, lighting
Walk-in closet system$4,000 - $15,000Footage, drawer banks, island dresser

Ranges reflect typical builds we quote; unusual woods, glass doors, and integrated lighting can exceed them. Every job gets its own written number before anything is scheduled - no allowances, no surprise change orders for things we could have measured.

Reading an estimate

What should be inside a cabinet quote

  • Materials named specifically - "3/4-inch maple plywood boxes, soft-close undermount slides," not "quality materials"
  • Finish process - sprayed and shop-cured beats brushed on site; the quote should say which
  • Installation included or itemized - hanging and scribing are real labor; a quote that omits them isn't comparable
  • Counters excluded and said so - counters are a separate trade; a cabinet number that quietly includes them can't be compared either
  • A schedule - build weeks and install days, in writing

Straight answers

Cost questions, answered plainly

How much do custom cabinets cost per linear foot?

Custom cabinetry typically runs $500-$1,200 per linear foot installed. Paint-grade maple in a simple door style sits at the low end; premium hardwoods, inset doors, and fitted interiors push toward the high end. A 20-linear-foot kitchen therefore lands roughly between $10,000 and $24,000 in cabinetry.

Are custom cabinets worth the money over semi-custom?

If your kitchen is a simple rectangle with standard-size runs, good semi-custom can serve you well. Custom earns its premium when the room is irregular, when you want every inch working (no filler strips), when the style you want is not in a catalog, or when you plan to stay long enough to feel the difference in how drawers run in year ten.

Is it cheaper to buy cabinets or have them built?

Stock cabinets are cheaper to buy; custom is usually cheaper to own per year of service. Stock boxes average a 10-15 year comfortable life; a solid custom kitchen runs 30 or more. When the compare is against upper semi-custom lines with their upgrade fees, built-to-order custom often lands within 10-20% - sometimes under.

What does cabinet refacing cost compared to new cabinets?

Refacing a typical kitchen runs $4,500-$12,000 - usually 40-60% of replacing the same kitchen with new custom cabinetry. It is the right call when the boxes are sound and the layout works. Our refacing page has the full reface-or-replace breakdown.
